I always shoot in the dark and want a faster lens.

Yeah I'll buy the Canon if I can get to the classifieds first. Yes I want the Leica 50mm f/1 but we all know that some of us spend less on ours cars.

I think a 50/1 or 1.2 would be outside the accuracy range of the Bessa R rangefinder. Not likely Pres K would do that.

And yes, there are times when a half stop makes a difference.

Yes, that half stop does make a difference in low light. It's one of the reasons I shoot 35mm (as opposed to medium or large format) at all anymore (not a rangefinder, though--Canon New F-1, FD 50/1.2L).

I agree, sometimes there's not much difference between out-of-focus softness and camera-shake softness. Also, like someone said above, f/1 would probably be hard to focus on a Bessa (other than the T, which I think is not longer in production).

That said, it would be interesting to see a new, relatively inexpensive superfast lens.

Surely in terms of hand-hold-ability the 35mm Nokton is the equal of the Noctilux - it may be a 1/2 stop slower but its shorter focal length pretty much balances that out. If I wanted the ultimate in low-light, I'd be looking at the Nokton... not that I'd be very comfortable focussing such a thin DoF with the relatively short EBL of the Bessas. Now, a Bessa with a much longer EBL - that'd be nice (but I appreciate it'd be costly as you'd need to redesign the
chassis to fit it in).

What would be *really* interesting is a DRF carrying the anti-shake sensor from the K10D. Ability to handhold beneath the 1/FL rule that you get with an SLR (because there's no mirror slap with an RF) combined with two or three stops from the anitishake... you'd be on your way to handholding a 1/4 or 1/2 with a 35mm lens.

When I had a Bessa R3A and a Nokton 40mm f1.4, I could focus easily, but now with a ZI and 50mm f1.5 it is a real joy. Yeah f 1.2 would be great.

Yes I have thought about CV 35mm f/1.2. In fact when I was thinking about owning just one lens that was top of the list. Its so dark when I shoot that there are lots of slightly out of focus pictures. I was a bit discouraged and then I got this:

At this point I realized that if I want to get one good picture every time I go out, then I have to work at it. I don't sit around like the SLR guys with their flashes and reviewing every single shot. I work on the focus, composition, and exposure all the time. There are plenty of nights that I'm still out of focus. Sometimes this bad focus and many times its blur. I just want it to be a bit easier and a bit easier is a faster lens.
