Lets make a poll to see how much Leica serves to our community...

What an irony with my nickname! I have to change it but admins do not allow 🙂

p.s. Admins, can we make it "RFForever" 🙂

Not I. I think Leica really should have priced this a fair bit lower than the M9 to drum up some sales.

And at the price it is at, I'm thinking the M10 is going to be around the $8-$9k mark. There's also a snippet on Leica Rumors that says it will have video. Neat, but totally unnecessary.

I want a Leica that works like a Leica. But some other things are important
1. ISO 6400. I've been spoiled by DSLR's, and at this stage of the game, it's not impossible.

2. Quiet, The M9 is fine, quieter would be better though.

3. Buffer, I'm ok with 3fps, I get by, but when the camera freezes for 60 seconds after 5 frames, that's just not fair. Like 20 frames would be nice.

4. LCD, it's been 7 years and they're still using the same LCD, It's complete crap, $100 P&S's have better screens.

5. White balance, It could be a lot better. It does ok, but all of my images have this greenish hue that has to be fixed in lightroom.

Don't mean to sound disgruntled but how about a poll asking, "who is tired of these M9M threads". BTW about your poll, I voted No. Like the majority here I can't afford one & if I could I'd just buy the M9 & convert what I wish to B&W.

I would consider one, but not this model since it's the first one. They'll get it right on the 2nd version. They're Leica, but not infallible.

Not for me…

I thought this one might have been more popular...

I have an M9 and it serves me well, the M9M is interesting and I might consider it if I didn't already have the M9.

I bought the M9 more or less at launch, and recently I've been using film a lot more, on my MP, as well as medium and large format really just enjoying the process and the results of film over my M9, the biggest M9 drawback from me is blown highlights (probably my own fault?) and the ISO limitations, I quite like the ritual of loading my film cameras.

I'll have two, good sir!

Wait a few years when Leica introduces "TURN YOUR M9 INTO AN M9M", you send it in and they simply remove bayern pattern (or what ever it is) / change sensor. Voila, you got an M9M

With the black Chrome in this first M Monochrome, Leica built in my excuse to not buy now. I'll wait for the $10k MMono P with Black Paint and Saphire Glass LCD. Also maybe a special model for $11k with a "windshield wiper" on the LCD to clean the nose grease for LH shooters. 😀

If it were $3k, yes. At $8k, no.
Even factoring in the Leica premium, I don't think that a full-frame mirrorless is doable at that $3k price point, so I don't really fault Leica on the M9/P/M. (on the record of people having to send them back for weeks at a time in the first year, OTOH, Leica should get it together)

As a collector's piece..

As a collector's piece..

maybe a good investment camera. Otherwise I'll stick to my M3 / M2 until I can afford the M10 or maybe a second hand M9.

With the money I could use to buy just the body of this camera, I would buy myself the following instead.

-Olympus OM-D Body.
-Leica M7.
-Leica M4-P.
-50mm f/2 Zeiss Planar ZM.
-28mm f/2.0 Voigtlander Ultron.

And a 2 week trip from Toronto to NYC (by bus) to shoot with my new gear.

I would if I could afford one - I think it has the potential to be a great tool. My personal maximum price I could withstand and justify would be $3000, though - so no.
