Vuescan Batch scanning Holga 120 film

Hi,

I am using a Coolscan 9000 with Vuescan Standard and have trouble scanning my 120 size color negatives created with my Holga.

The spacing is uneven and I have to scan the images one by one. Meaning cutting the film into 2 frame strips and turn the film after each scan.
No matter if I select “Batch” or “List” while selecting the number of desired scans. It never creates correctly framed multiple pre-scans.

Is there a setting I can use to scan 2 or 3 unevenly spaced frames at the time?

My current workflow is very time consuming…

I don't use the same hardware or software as you but I too have problems with batch, or auto-framing.

It's worth taking the extra time to scan each frame manually.

It's a bad idea to cut strips down any smaller than they need to be to fit the LS-8000/LS-9000 carrier.

Measure the average distance from frame start to frame start in mm. Use that in the Input menu as the "frame spacing" value (Q: why would this vary much on a Holga? Aren't you using red windows to set the frame?)

In the Crop menu, set the crop size to 6x6 and set auto-offset.

Don't bother locking the exposure on the Input menu - because auto-offset is going to do a preview on each frame anyway. You might as well get the benefit of frame-by-frame calibration.

Set this way, unless you have frame overlap, Vuescan will scan an area bigger than the expected frame, set the frame automatically, scan and move on. This will work even for old cameras with uneven spacing.

Make sure you use a "buffer" value of 5-10% to eliminate exposure slipups from the inevitable white or black border that Vuescan will pick up at "6x6."

Thank you very much for your advice. Currently I am working my way through 5 rolls off film and its getting rather old to scan each frame individually.
My developer Dwaynes cuts the film into 2 image strips. I have to flip the strip 180 degrees after each scan.

Indeed I try to move the film from number to number but sometimes I am off by a click or so. Will definitely try your advice!

This brings me to an other question. Holgarama’s; so multiple shots purposely very close or even overlapping. So far VueScan is giving me a hard time.

Also the Exposure thing is something I need to find in the options.
