I'm a city person at heart, but sometimes we find ourselves living in a place we might not really fit in, but it's the right place for people who are important in our lives.

And this time of year, I usually get the suburban blues. So I thought maybe we could share our images of the "Blue Burbs". I'll start and hope you'll join me.

Love the idea for this thread!

Back in the summer of 1998, after I had just graduated from college, I carried my Canon AE-1 in the car as I was driving around Cleveland and its suburbs. For a couple of weeks I got interested in photographing things in my rear-view mirrors. (Generally not while the car was moving!) I lost the negatives long ago; all I have now are low-quality scans from 1998. Here is one that I like because of the contrast between the very urban view behind the car and the suburban houses and lawn in front of it.

Dear Tim,

I lived in PA for most of my life growing up in a suburb. I had seen perhaps a half dozen bears in 40 plus years of traveling the backwoods of PA.

I live about 10 miles as the crow flies from State Capital building in Harrisburg but I have the coolest neighbors.

Regards,

Tim Murphy

Tim, that bear is pretty scary. Doesn't seem to have much fear of humans.

Tom, OMG, especially the cul-de-sac, a feature of every suburb I can remember.

Best,
-Tim
