for those sporting the earlier chrome version of this lens: are you using it with a hood, or without? and if applicable, which hood are you using?

i grabbed a generic hood off of ebay (arrived fitted with adapter ring), but it tends to vignette in the lower corners of the frame.

let me retract my previous statement...this lens requires no hood and in fact gives exactly the look i go for when shooting against the light. after this first roll, i do believe it will stay glued to my M2.

Thanks. I've discovered that hoods on Canon 35s result in vignetting. The front elements on these lenses are recessed enough that a hood is not needed. The lenses can still flare, but not in a way that a hood woukd make a difference. I never had flare problems with the little chrome 35/2.8. That's a sweet lens, great to use on an M2.🙂

the only lens i shoot with regularly

the only lens i shoot with regularly

I took my M7 with canon 35/2.8 to Rome, Athens and Istanbul and found that it satisfied most of my needs. Sure I could have used the 21mm/f4 lens once in a while, like inside the Hagia Sofia, but overall the small canon did the trick. In darkish interiors just brace ylourself and shoot at f2.8 1/4 sec.

Here's some recent shots with my Canon 35mm f2.8 mounted on a Canon L3. Looks like the hood I used was causing a vignette...

The front element on the chrome 35/2.8 is not really recessed much (as opposed to the black 35/2.8 and both versions of the 28/3.5). I use a Leitz FOOKH hood on mine. The original Canon hood for the 35/2.8 isn't too uncommon, though its much bulkier than a FOOKH.

Can any one please tell me what lens hood does it take. If I cannot find a Canon make, then is there a universal one I can buy, but I really need to know what size thread does it take. Thank you.

Ok, I'm contributing too, now that I've bought one. This pic comes from the first color test roll.
Having read the thread and tested the lens, I would tend to say that I will mostly use it with color negs. Color rendition is just perfect. Really what I was looking for. Can't wait to use it at night with Fuji Natura!
On the contrary, I favour punchier and more contrasty lenses for b/w, but that's just me. All the b/w pics here underline how much this lens can subtly render grey tones if that's what one is after.
