This little church in Regla, a Havana neighborhood, houses this 1660 wood bias image of the black Madonna and white baby. It is worshiped as the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus by Catholics. More often it is the representation of Yemama, the spirit of the sea and patron of sailors to followers of Santeria, an Afro-Cuban religion. They practice their differing religious beliefs side by side.
