Regla (a Havana municipality), Cuba - statue of the Virgin de Regla or La Caridad, the patron saint of Cuba. Recognized by Catholics as the Blessed Virgin Mary and by Santeria as the Orisha Yemayá, the saint who owns the moon and seas. The two religions worship side by side to the same statue, just each having their own beliefs who it represents.

Bob, think of how amazing it would be if good photographers were in the places you were! Incredible!

My simple view is that the important aspects are:
1) be there
2) have a camera
3) use it

I focus on being places rather than what camera I have. Also critical is spending enough time there and doing research to understand things about where you are.

Bob, I was not expressing that as my opinion at all (quite the contrary). I was just pointing out that someone else was delivering a backhanded compliment -- whether intended or not I'm not sure.

KoNickon: not to worry. I totally understood where you were coming from.

Actually, I did not consider the original poster's (LCSmith) comment to be any sort of compliment at all when he said "Bob, think of how amazing it would be if good photographers were in the places you were" but merely his person opinion. I simply considered the quality of the source and let it roll off my back.
