Santa Rita Church in Riley, NM. Riley is a ghost town. The church is the only building there that is still maintained.

It’s not the structure that makes a church…
Holiness church in the mountains of East Tn that practices serpent handling. They handle copperheads, rattle snakes, cobras, puffadders and cotton mouthed as well as using a torch on themselves and drinking drain cleaner and strychnine. I’ve attended about 55 of these services.
You and I ma not follow their practices but these are some of the kindest and most sincere people I’ve ever met.
I’m sad to say the pastor in this church passed away from a heart attack at his home a year ago.

You are in a hotbed of religious fervor. What they lack in religious education they make up for with religious passion. Faith takes many forms and fashions. The yardstick is does it help?
I enjoy very muich your collection of Appalachia events. Get all you can. TV will replace a lot with shabby imitations of what is happening in those hollers. Thanks for posting.
