w/nw Environmental Portraits

Rodeo, Sancti Spiritus, Cuba - 2014 This local rodeo is for real cowboys. No silver belt buckles, no checks, not even ribbons. Just fierce but sportsman friendly competition amongst friends and co-workers. Cowboys ride their horses to the rodeo grounds at sunrise so their horses can be rested up to compete. And, they start young. This was a competitor in the youth calf roping class.

I haven’t shot portraits in a very long time aside from street portraits or photos of my own family, but earlier this month I had the opportunity to photograph two of my friends to celebrate the upcoming birth of their first child! I’m very happy with how these turned out.
