Lake Michigan carferry SS Badger, built in 1952. Yes, the lighthouse leans to one side, that is part of its claim to fame. Nikon D80, 80-400 zoom.

Wow, fun to see this, as I've likely taken the newer ferries on that route.

Looks very familiar, but it took me a bit to realize what is wrong here... ferries I remember in the mid-1940's and later on Puget Sound routes were all double-ended (except the unique Kalakala) so they had a pilot house at both ends, unlike this pictured one.

Doug, we were always on the 1940's versions when I was a kid (we always went to Winslow). But my dream was to go on the Kalakala. Finally my father took us on a round trip to Bremerton (I think). It was a big thrill.
Here is his version of a Seattle ferry dock???

Yes, has to be the Coleman Dock ferry terminal in Seattle, with sorta Kalakala-like Art Deco styling! Seattle skyline is unrecognizably different from today. Hey, where's the Alaskan Way viaduct??
I don't recall ever riding Seattle-Winslow, almost always Seattle-Bremerton, though sometimes Kingston-Edmonds and Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth.

We also went on the South Point-Lofall short run across Hood Canal. It was on our way to Port Ludlow.

What a great thread. Nautical + street photography. Add ferries to the short list of things I would like about city life.
