It’s six courses (6x2), so can be tuned like a guitar, and that’s how I have it at the moment: EADgbe. But I’m also interested in drone + solo melody, so may retune to EBEgbe or DADgad at some point.

I used to own a 7-course lute—same instrument but with frets—and am familiar with beginner/intermediate stuff from the English Renaissance, but fundamentally it’s about getting interesting sounds from stringed instruments and working with my limitations as a mostly self-taught guitarist.

Are the pairs all sympathetically tuned? Each string in the pair looks the same diameter, so I guess they are not octave tuned like a 12 string guitar?

Yes, they’re sympathetically tuned.

Found these earlier, the first Epiphone was a pals who I fixed it up for, turned out nice.

The 3rd pic is an Epiphone that we cleaned up a while ago [10yrs or so, same as the first pic] owned by a well known musician from Manchester, UK.

i have partially missing index playing finger tip (kid accident), but learned on the heavys;
you know what's up seems like. had to teach the pinky lefty to finally join in on high E, while got away with it earlier. lol
