W/NW Hats

Helen, this photo resonates with me for a number of reasons.

I was immediately compelled to look at it instead skimming over as I do most photos was because of the subdued color palette, the softness, the grain, and the simple but strong graphical quality all work together. I realize that none of these qualities just happened. Some may have been conscious, some subconscious, and some may have been the ability to realize and utilize them. However, none happens randomly. It is so refreshing to see someone who realizes that there is no set of standards that work for every photo, that all photos need not be tack sharp, that grain is good when it fits the image, and more complicated does not mean better.

I love that this is in this thread "hats". Good reason as the hat you were wearing was such a critical photo element. Your photo would not have worked without it. More imaginative than photos of people simply wearing hats

Lastly, it is a self-photo where you opened up showed a bit of yourself beyond the physical. I see that as key, not just a mechanical reproduction. Your photo did bring Cindy Sherman's "untitled film stills" to mind.

getting ready to go out and shoot...
