W/NW History

Shwebo was the first capital of the last dynasty of Burma. On 29 February 1752, the chief of the village Moksobo, Aung Zeya founded the Konbaung Dynasty and made it the capital. It became Shwebo in 1753 and it means “Town of the Golden Leader”. In 1760, after Aung Zeya died, the capital was moved to Sagaing. The palace you can now find near Shwebo is a replica build in 1999. Battle of Plattsburgh

The 1814 Battle of Plattsburgh was the decisive battle that ended the War of 1812 with the Treaty of Ghent. This has become a re-enactment and community cultural event in Plattsburgh for the last 20 years: to commenorate the dead and celebrate peace.

The re-enactors in costume are the anchor of the event and colorful to look at:

Carlsten fortress, Bohuslän, Sweden, Oct. 2020. First built soon after 1658 but what we see here was probably built in the 18th century.
Crop (about 1100mm on a 35mm camera) from Canon EOS 30D, 200mm f/2.8 L lens at 1/800 sec, f/5 and ISO 100.
I have no idea where the focus where. The fortress is 20 km away and the nearest coast (in the photo) is 3.5 km away.. :)

"Big C" was nearing the end of his prison term for selling drugs, so the local health department condemned and leveled the restaurant so he could not reopen. Only a bare slab remained.
