I'm brand new to photography (as in I basically got my start this week) and am stuck in the house for the rest of the evening with an itch to take some pictures. I started looking around my house wondering if I can take some cool shots. Figured I'd come here and get some inspiration for this sort of situation. Do you ever take pictures around your home, classroom, workplace, car etc? If so post some of your favorite shots.

Most assuredly not my photo (Andre Kertesz is the photographer), but perhaps the quintessential example of what you're describing:

Reminds me of a saying: I'd rather take an exceptional picture of a banal subject, than a banal picture of an exceptional subject.

Yep. The outcome is usually boring for others, but they still mean something to me:
For instance:
(I was sick that day)
(I call this one "65", you figure out why)
(Having a beer on July 4th after building the deck in the photo)
(A beautiful sun-rise from our deck when having my morning coffee)
Etc.

I think that with a bit of effort a photographer can make something that is unremarkable a little interesting at least. Its all a matter of being able to see the possibilities in any scene and then making the shot.
These shots were of nothing much in particular. Just some pretty ordinary trees. But I like them. A bit of framing / composition, a little desaturating etc and the pictures now have possibilities that some might never have seen.
The ability to "see" a finished image is something one learns with experience. None of these shots have inherently beautiful subjects. But I have taught myself to look for what they might be as an image. (And you should see the hundreds and thousands that I took but did not go anywhere because once on the screen just did not have any promise. But that's how you learn).

Lots of cool pics in here! Looks like playing with lighting and sometimes color is pretty key to making just about anything stand out.

Well, that scenery isn't SO boring. Nice pic regardless!

Around home there's lots. Takes a while to see it. A bit of a challenge your first week. Lots of photographs taken, and lots more looked at will see you there.
This was on an errand to the supermarket, stopping on the corner with the bank to take this. Tiny camera. Two shots and I was gone. No tripod.
And this is near home, a tiny unimpressive place I pass every Sunday evening on my walk.
