W/NW - LLL 35mm 8-Element Image Thread

Slumgullion, I've seen your photos over at Fred Miranda, and while the lens rendering is very appealing (I own one too), I have to say that your development regimen is fantastic. I love T-Max 400 developed in Xtol, and when I get some of the tonality I'm seeing in your photos, I'm really happy indeed. Yes, I realize that some adjustments can be done in post, but it's also good to start with a well developed negative. Yours are great, particularly the mentioned combo.
Thanks! T-Max has such a wide latitude. I’m usually exposing for an EI of 160-200. The extra density of the neg works really well with ‘dslr’ scanning (I use a Sony A7RII). I convert in Negative Lab Pro and usually use the Linear Gamma pre-set. Beyond that, I clone out dust and use auto-tone in Photoshop. If I nailed the exposure, no other adjustments are necessary.

The newly made imitation lenses don’t have the charm of the old original lenses, Erik. You have the original steel rim lens. Why would you now want an imitation of it? My Summicron has goggles and I wanted the same lens without goggles so I bought an imitation lens.

My images taken with the M10 and LLL 35/2 "replica".

Nice photos, Raid. Both the M9 and M10 images look good, but I have to say, as an owner and fan of the M9, your M10 images look a bit better to me. I suspect it's because the M10 is just better at nailing white balance in camera and also because many of the M10 images appear to have been taken in pretty much optimal light conditions -- on clear days, with very long shadows indicating very early in the morning or just before sunset -- while many of the M9 shots are on overcast days. The M9 images can look great too, but in my experience it takes a little more user effort to correct colors and get them just right. Anyway, nice job!

There was no intention to compare the M9 images with the M10 images. I just picked two links of images taken with the LLL Summicron 35/2. Both cameras are excellent and the M9 may give better looking color images than the M10.

I'm glad you posted what you did. My rambling is simply the result of a curious nature and analytical bent. I can't look at a photo without trying to figure out why it looks the way it does. Sorry 😎

p.s., And I learned many years ago never to let pride of ownership affect gear evaluations, so I have no preference whatsoever regarding which camera is better. 'Just try to evaluate as dispassionately and as unbiased as possible.

I sold the Leitz lenses (I had both the goggled and the normal versions) and kept the wonderful prototype in black paint that was presented to me by the representative of LLL in the US. It is a super fine lens, both mechanically and optically.

I can't find the original thread!

Erik.
uff; eventhoug I bought the LLL replica but still have no intention to part with my 35/2.8 Summaron and 35/2 IV (KOB)
the Authenticity for me is a Special Thing, though I like the LLL Replica
