Pigtails just for the photo. My wife had a similar reaction (though her reaction was preceded by a sharply spoken "WTF!").

Shortly thereafter, I trimmed about four inches off the beard (she didn't notice until about four hours later... not the first time for that). The ponytail, like many things, is destined to not be long for this world. It looks slightly less goofy than the temporary pig(let) tails.

Paul, your hog call is quite good -- even in print. I understand that the famous bellow coming from Johnny Weismuller's mouth in the Tarzan movies was an aggregation of several different people screaming, including a hog caller.

Totally off topic: Paul, you be sure to post news as soon as you can after your endoscopy. Hordes of us are awaiting this slow process of elimination by your caregivers to scratch another couple of scary things off the list of potential issues. I think you're going to hear soon that your meds are a large causative contributor to your symptoms. We'll all be very relieved when we hear that you're going to be here in good health for a long time to come!
