Sergio:

Piolho goes out and gets drunk every night as his day job is picking up litter by the side of the highway. I sort of think that was always his destiny.

If people watching this thread don't speak Portuguese I guess they'll have learnt one word today.

And this is Pele who needs a little sleep before going home.

I don't know how he manages it with the loud Brazilian music all around him.

UEFA Euro 2008, Croatia - Turkey 1:0 . Seconds later Turkey scored the equalizer and finaly won the penalty-shootout

The taverna with no name, before mass tourism it was the only one so it just had “Taverna” painted over the door, the old guy was the brother of the woman who owned the place and they always refused to sell-out to developers, sadly he died last winter and it changed hands this summer

So sad.

I prefer the former version. And I'm sure I can see tourists outside.

In the newer version there is nobody there apart from staff.

No keg beer and it looked a bit seedy so it discouraged most of my countrymen, those on the veranda will be “repeat offenders” like me, or locals.

It still gets customers just a different crowed, I only called in to say hello to the waiter George but he’d been sacked sadly.

PS no one eats indoors in August without air-con that’s why it looks empty

That's funny: that nobody eats indoors.

Here (Portugal) the tourists sit outside any time of year, and those of us who live here wouldn't dream of not sitting inside.

Cultural differences.

Just today I was wearing two hand knit jumpers mid morning, and saw some tourists in shorts and sleeveless shirts!

Jon, tourists believe Portugal = hot sunny weather. This might be true, but not all year long...
These last days nights have been really cold here at Porto...

Sergio:

That is so true.

As soon as the sun goes down it's cold here. If I go out with a camera I always wear gloves and try and dodge in and out of cafe bars every ten minutes!

by middle of September it drops to the mid 20’s in the evening and the breezes blow in from Albania, that sends the locals scurrying indoors, bizarrely in town there are dozens of fur shops

most excellent!

Agreed, beautiful, classy shot

CJM: that first shot is nice, I like his relaxed body language

Gabriel: beautiful shot, the light in that photo is phenomenal
