W/NW Paris (the City of Light)

Not sure about "city of light" but the last time I was there (and in Vienna) it could justifiably be called the "city of dog shit." Its everywhere and no one cleans up after their mutt has pooped. It ain't so "romantic" now is it! 😢😢😢

However, on a brighter note, I do recall that in Vienna at least (not sure about Paris) everyone brought their mutts into restaurants and let them sit at the table and eat off the plates. The same dogs that licked their own butts and sniffed other dogs' butts, ate off the same plates that I ate from.
Gotta love those wonderful European exotic cultures. No wonder 80% of them died in the Middle Ages from the plague if even now, this is the zenith of their sense of hygiene and public sanitation.

Shamefully, I don't remember which Parisian suburb this was. It was a relatively poor area. There was a park, and this photo was immediately adjacent to the previous one. Maybe someone will recognise it?

EDIT:
My apologies: @WoodallP, you were exactly right! Viewpoint and arena are both marked on Google maps.

It was an educated guess, I don’t live too far away but don’t get there often enough so as to be sure. The view seemed a bit familiar though.

Hi, it’s safe to come back! This was certainly the reality when I moved here 20+ years ago, but not now. Parisian dog owners are now, on the whole, responsable people and use their little black bags. Of course there will always be some that don’t, but that is the same anywhere.

Yes. I was there this past weekend and noticed well behaved dogs and dog owners. Seemed pretty clean to me.

Good to know. I wonder if Vienna has improved too. I vividly recall my first day there (over 20 years ago now) which was rainy and me "dancing" between dog piles on the footpath of Mariahilfer Strasse while also trying to dodge the rain. 😕 It almost seemed to be a point of pride not to pick up.

That was certainly my memory of climbing the stairs of Sacre Coeur about 25 years ago.

I was in Paris about this time last year right after the Olympics and unfortunately the problem of dog owners not cleaning up after their canine friends was very much in evidence. My wife discovered this the expensive way, as a rather costly pair of shoes wound up in a rubbish bin in Paris rather than in our bags on the way home.

Vienna seemed fined to me, dog poop wise. I was there about 2 weeks ago. Paddington, Sydney on the other hand....

It does not surprise me that parts of Sydney are a bit like this. Adelaide (my home town) is not too bad but in my suburb (an upper middle class suburb) it still happens a bit more than I think necessary.

Where is that? What happened to that building? Foundations collapsed during construction?
I’m afraid I don’t remember where exactly. Maybe someone else on the forum will know? It was obviously fairly central.

As to the cause, I’d like to know too. Funny how other tourists seemed not to notice.
