This is a fire lookout that was built in 1927 and abandoned in 1952. It has sat, unattended on that mountain ever since...and still stands.

There are lightening protection cables still attached and I suspect this may be one reason it still stands.

Vandals and souvenir hunters have done a bit of damage, of course.

The old Maui High School, originally the only one, located near Paia which was once a major hub in sugar production. In ruins for many years, the school is being gradually restored.
