Biloxi, Mississippi 2005, a few months after Hurricane Katrina swept away much of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Just about everyone from the southern US would recognize the "Waffle House" sign even with only two letters remaining and no building behind it. Waffle House is a 24/7/365 breakfast restaurant with 2,100 locations all over the southern US.
