W/NW: Signs

Anyone have any ideas what this means? "F.A.P. 29-A" or maybe "29.A" -- sign seen in Fort Mill, South Carolina, USA. It is at least "vintage" if not outright "old."

I suspect some kind of fire Dept. marker. Fire access point? For where a hydrant is. Distance and size. UK we have a black H on yellow. Two numbers on the H distance to hydrant and size of pipe supply, I made a connection:cool:

Thanks Chris; that sounds like a good theory. What puzzles me is that this is the first sign like this that I've ever seen. I would think think if it's for something as important as fire suppression, there would be millions of them (i.e., more than one such sign in the environs of each fire hydrant, of which there are in turn millions). So I'm still not sure...
