Re design, see http://taunusreiter.de/Cameras/Biotar_en.html, scroll down a little for the Sonnar family.
The "essentials" seem to be a large front element followed by a cemented triplet and then the aperture. Smaller elements behind the aperture. Longer focal lengths have a cemented doublet in place of the triplet.
Modern Sonnars (from the Rollei 40mm/2.8 on) tend to use three elements up front with the central part of the cemented triplet "left out." They are Sonnars in that they otherwise follow the design rules and on a lens diagram it can be difficult to see whether a cemented triplet or "air lens" has been used. c.f. http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=321880&postcount=12 and compare to the link above.

And thanks to searching for suitable links I can report that there WAS a 50mm SLR Sonnar: the Maxar lens for the Hungarian Duflex SLR.

I had six (edit: seven) different Jupiters 3 in the past and did some different test shots with them. Below are some of these shots made with 3 of them.
