After more than 10 years of not shooting anything wider than 28, I decided to try ultra-wide again. Enter an E60 Elmarit about a month ago.

A little on the large side, but - so far - it feels and behaves like my other Mandler lenses.

=================================

This thread is to share photos with this lens.

Last week in Tokyo:

nice shots roland. i have been shooting this lens for a year and i love it. it is my go to lens on my rd1; perfect for street work. it is amazing to me that nothing on this forum even mentions this lens while the slower elmar seems to get so much love. especially with this being a mandler lens. i love the rendering. it has beautiful sharpness and lovely color profiles. hopefully this thread will open some eyes, thanks for posting!

Thanks, Tony. Also seemed to me that it didn't get appropriate love on RFF (last related thread was 2011). I feel it goes really nice on the dark tones and has a beautiful focus->OOF rendering. And when I tested it - it was very sharp closed down.

Hopefully we get to see more photos ....

That's a nice lens and some nice photos with it. Enjoy!

I had one of those first, but traded it for a 24mm back in the day. Much as I like the 21 view of the world, I find it takes a special mindset for me to get the most out of it; I'm more likely to get there with a slightly longer lens. I thought of that a lot when I was looking for a wide recently and went for a 24 again.

I'll be interested to see your photos with it develop.

thank you both! we're very lucky as thats where we live. its my most photographed scene by far, as it changes so much, yet stays essentially the same. for that one i zone focused at f8 and put the rd1 just about as close to the water as i was comfortable. this lens is so compact, so fast for a 21, and way sharp enough for me. the rd1, along with the x100, imo, have reached the top of b&w digital rendering.

Cheers,

PS: Thanks, G.

Direct JPEG outputs (or ones with minimum level of manipulation) always have a certain charm...a taste of the digital medium itself. Love it.

Thanks. I try to keep manipulations minimal. Typically mostly pulling the shadows a little. I have to admit that I'm still struggling with digital WB.
