Yokohamabashi Covered Shopping Street
Per the internet:Yokohamabashi Shopping District is a local shopping street that has been selling mainly daily commodities since before World War II. It is a vibrant shopping street with an atmosphere reminiscent of the old days, where face-to-face selling is still valued

Whenever I visit Yokohamabashi shopping street I always stop by this Chicken butcher shop.
She sells domestic chicken from various locations in Japan. She has chicken carcasses for making soup; she leaves extra meat on the bones for added flavor. She also sells some cooked chicken specialties. It's an old shop, she's second generation. Very friendly woman, often rounds down the price and throws a small something extra in your bag for free.

She makes the best chicken salad I have ever tasted.
I don't know what her secret is but the stuff is addictive
She's handing over my chicken salad now! :)

This little Mom & Pop Italian restaurant has an interesting story.
A couple years ago it was featured on a popular gourmet TV show. Because of that they were overwhelmed with so many customers they decided to shut-down temporarily. Since then they’ve reopened. I ate lunch there yesterday. The place has one cook and one waitress, both are senior aged. I was lucky to get a seat, after me they started turning customers away and then flipped the “open” sign on the door to “closed”. Popularity can be a problem.

Hi Mike,

I'm always surprised by the number of very small family run restaurants they have in Japan. Like you said it is pure luck to get in some and they aren't afraid to turn away customers.
