Hey Mike, wanta pick your brain on the VCS 18/2.8. Is it as good and handle as well as everyone seems to say it is?

I'm asking as I'm dipping my toes back into stuff, thinking of an 18/56/200 kit. The Fuji 18/1.4 seems wonderful but is bigger than I want, working with the 25 Snapshot on a Bessa L has spoiled me for wide angle lenses. The 200, odds are will be Nikkor f4 AIs because of size and cost. The 56 might be the Viltrox 56/1.2 Pro (my only AF glass). That might change if I can feel comfortable with an old X-E3 and manual focus. I'd prefer something physically smaller, but it really care about edge to edge sharpness wide open.

Let me know your thoughts on the 18. It's my front runner right now.

Hi Bill,

The Voigtländer Color-Skopar 18mm f2.8 (X-mount) lens is a sweet little manual focus lens that pulls it's own weight and sits nicely on a Fuji XE camera body.



And, it's capable of making interesting and sharp images.

"Reflection in the Ookagawa river"


"Yokohama river and skyline"


However, because of the manual focus only aspect of the lens I wouldn't want it as my only 18mm lens. You might want to consider the Fujinon XF 18mm f2 R lens. I have this lens and I use it quite a lot. I think it's far better than its reputation.
