I just purchased a GTN on eBay using Best Offer for $40 including shipping to Canada. Shutter and advance lever are functional, lens clean and scratch free, although has a minor dent which does not prevent lens cap use.

There is "very minor piece of corrosion on the end of the spring down inside that will wipe off with no problem" according to the vendor. I'm hopeful that this will clean off without any permanent corrosive damage although I am prepared to use it without battery if nec. and at this price I won't feel so bad if I have to do this.

If you think GTN prices are high (I saw this on a recent post) you should see what most people want to charge Canadians for shipping, usually around the going price for the camera!

Any tips or hints for cleaning the corrosion?

I'm totally excited to get this camera as I've heard so many wonderful things about it. I'm planning on using it with some Ilford B&W and will post some pictures once I get it.

Try white vinegar for corrosion. Geez, prices on these cameras are really going up. Mine was $40 for a fully reconditioned, CLA'd, and POD replaced camera. Actually, the main deal with these cameras is:

1. Aperture priority (preferable to shutter priority)
2. As good a 1.7 as you'll find from any lens maker
3. Nearly silent shutter
4. Unique ability to meter, calculate, and properly expose looong shutter speeds (on a tripod)

Downside is they're pretty big. And as far as fixed lens RFs go from that era, it's hard to find a "bad one" (assuming it's been serviced) but the Yashicas have some pretty cool features. Good luck/Have fun with it.

Thanks Nick. I'll try the vinegar.

I wish I could have paid $40 for a reconditioned one! I've been seeing a lot of them go for $50 or even higher (for GSN) with no guarantees as to whether they work so paying $27 for this camera was a bargain by comparison especially with only $13 shipping rate ($30 shipping quotes are common).

The aperture priority sold me on this model. My Canonet QL19 is only shutter priority or full manual, so A-priority will make a nice change.
