try German Ebay or www.geizhals.de for better prices on the Minolta IV - I've already seen it for around 280 Euros there, and I guess after X.Mas prices will drop a bit more...
I'm waiting for that, or might possibly get the Dual Scan III as a present from a friend, who hopes he will get the new Epson F3200 for X-Mas from his (filthy stinking rich) dad.

Jaime Robbie Robertson. Now there's a name, makes me think of that great group the Band.

Saw Bob Dylan sing & play in Boston (actually Cambridge) a couple of weeks ago. He was pretty good.
 
Thanks f the tip, Roman. Actually, i do scan the german e-bay - for contax stuff, for 6x9 folders... but never thought of doing it with the scanner :bang:
I thought myself of the epson f3200 - the price is sub700 euro but can't see it anywhere in stock. And, there's only one "review" i've found on the Net - which does not discuss results with 35mm negs or MF, only 4x5. I'd love a film scanner that does a good job both with MF and 35mm...but not at the price of the Minolta Multi et co.

Peter - Dylan's still alive?:) I liked him alot 10y ago... didn't really listen to him lately. Does he produce new stuff?
 
My brother already has an Epson F3200 (though bought for more than 800 Euros), but I won't see him before Christmas, so I can't say anything about results...

I also remember paying 250 euros for the 3170 photo when I got it, and I could only find it in ONE store in central Barcelona, all the others had ran out of them and only had the more expensive 3200 or the low ones without MF film scanning features. The separate 4x5 transparency adapter also went for 120 euros alone, ouch!

Had I had a bit more experience on buying overseas I would have considered getting it pretty cheaper from the US, but first I thought about the possible warranty problems, secondly about the issues related to possible shipping problems, not to mention customs that for sure would stop a box shouting 'brand new item inside!'.

So far I do the only thing I can, if I already overpaid for it, then at last I try to scan as many film as I can with it :)

How's the 3170 for 35mm, Oscar? I mean, for more than web display - like, scanning for printing (not posters, but bigger than 10x15cm)? That would be the second option, but i'm worried about its quality with non-MF negs.
And, with black and white 35mm?
 
Hmmm... good question. Too bad I don't have an answer for it. The shots I submitted for the RF book project were scanned with it, and they were both scanned at 2400 dpi, 35mm b&w.

The optical resolution goes up to 3200 dpi, I'm planning on burning some pics on CD and try to find one of those quick photo printers for digital cards anc CDs and see what goes out and which sizes are available. I'll keep you informed !
 
Well, for you European members, the flatbed Microtek ScanMaker 6100 might also be an option. It's cheaper than comparable Epsons!
The scanning resolution goes to 6400 (but I think that's interpolated - the real resolution would probably be 3200). Comes with all the adapters you need, and works well. All my shots in the gallery are scanned on the Microtek, and it also comes with Silverfast Lite software, which is quite OK.
Does great job with 35mm and MF negs, but also with B&W positives (photos). Never regretted buying it. If only it worked under Linux :(

Still alive? Very much so! And he is still songwriting and making CDs. He came out with one called Time out of mind a couple of years ago that's really worth listening to.

He played at a college in Cambridge, I went with one of my kids who's a student there and some of her chums and we had a wonderful time. He's now 63 and looking his age but he's in great shape and his voice is just fine. :)
 
The first time I saw Dylan in concert was 20 some odd years ago in Buffalo,NY-- he was playing with the Grateful Dead and I was living in Rochester,NY a bunch of my friends wnted to see the Dead, I wanted to see both, the Dead played first and all my buddies decided to leave cuz"he's too old" I stayed and had a hell of a time! and found a ride back to Rochester after the show no problem!
While I have one or two regrets about my youth I will never complain about it!
