Right now Walgreen's has their house brand film (made by Fuji?) 200 ASA color film on sale. A 4-pack of 24-exp. costs $5.99, so that makes it less than $1.50 a roll.
Thank you!
I live one block from a Walgreens and though I can't stand the aesthetic of the place, I go there to have them develop my film. The cost comes to $2.31 a roll for development only and I scan what I want. Several employees there know me and often do the job in about 20 minutes even though I don't need it that fast. They estimate they do a solid 50+ rolls per day, sometimes 100 depending on coupons / deals.
Here's a semi-recent one on the W/F 200:

Can anybody tell where this is? 🙂
Omaha, NE ??
Papa Smurf: Is there another Walgreen's store in your area where you could pick more up? I've done that a few times during a sale when one store only has a couple rolls.
Here's a couple of mine from the W/F 200.

Las Vegas?
I noticed you have a Sigma 18/3.5, is that K or M42? I had an M42 once, and it was a really great lens, big, but very low distortion.
Curious, for those of you who live near both a Walgreens and a Costco, do you still consider 24 exp. rolls a deal (vs a 36 exp. roll), since Costco's develop and scan most any 35mm roll for the same price?
I'm not sure how to answer that, because I don't quite understand the question. This film is costing $1.50 for 24 exposures. Walgreen's will process it for about $2.15. I think they charge about $1 more for 36 exp. Yeah, I know...it shouldn't cost anymore just to process it, and the store by me rarely does charge me more for a 36 exposure roll. I have no idea what Costco charges. As far as scanning goes, I do it myself, so I don't pay for that.
Since I take a CD along with developing, Walgreens charges $2.99 for that plus $$1.99 or so for developing. Costco develop + CD scans are also about $5 for developing and scanning to CD.
So 5/24 = ~ 21 cents per develop/scan, while 5/36 = ~ 14 cents so even when 24 rolls are very inexpensive, in the end it's often a better deal for me to pay more for 36 exp. rolls.
YMMV.
I understand your point now, ampguy. But are you also factoring in what the cost of the film is? I just never see 36 exp. film on sale anywhere near these prices.
Let's say you pay $3/roll for 36 exp., which is pretty reasonable. That brings the cost per frame, inlcuding both film and processing, to over 22 cents, right?
Now, this Walgreen's film is costing $1.50 a roll. If I go with your processing costs, the cost per frame is just over 21 cents. And if you scan your own, which I much prefer, the per frame cost goes down to about 14 cents!
