so I got my first roll of 120 back from walmart... cost like $10 and took two weeks. my prolab can do it for that price and sleeve the negatives. I thought walmart was supposed to be like half the price... I'm not impressed.

Now you know to use your pro-lab.

They probably sent it to a pro lab.

Well, not to sound rude, but it IS Wal-Mart. I wouldn't expect much.

If you got dev and proof prints... I'd say you got a good price. If you got dev and proof sheet, you got a good price. It htat was dev only...
Two weeks, though, is a long turnaround time.
Didn't you have pricing when you left the film with them?

Add this to the already long list of reasons to not give Walmart ANY business.

I won't set foot in Walmart's or Sam's. Poor Sam must be spinning in his grave . . .

I don't know Scott - I've been in small towns here in Texas where Walmart was the only department store for 50, 60 miles around. My last major purchase at one was a tire at 10:30 PM on a Saturday night in Jennings, LA. I know they exploit labor, local governments and their suppliers - but if they closed their doors tomorrow, a lot of Podunk towns would miss them.

For that price... two-weeks might be worth waiting. What do they deliver for proofs?

I prefer being called by my name, which is on the message. But "Dude" does seem affectionate... so whatever.
I know that they are generally "feebes", but are you telling me that they can't even tell you what you'll be paying? That's pathetic!

usually 3x3. Pricing unpredictable, but always under $5.00 (US). Sometimes this includes proofs other times no proofs. unpredictable but so cheap I dont sweat it.
If no proofs then I simply analyze the negs to determine enlargements. Regards, Paul

Support your local lab, Walmart is evil.

Gumby, Please accept my apology. But your comment was so funny I couldnt help it.
Yes, they cant even tell what the cost might be so its an exercise in futility.
Its even worst than that -- Lately they wont give me my order because they say the pix looked professionally taken and Im not a pro so they say the pix cannot be mine. Go figure. They insist I provide a photog business card.
Secret: yes, they were taken w/ a Hasselblad and after 18 yrs of working the gear my skills have improved. Regards, Paul

No problem. I was smiling when I typed that. In real life I get called "Sir" and "Mr."all day long... and I hate that. When they talk about me behind my back it is with words that are unspeakable in public. Being called Dude was refreshing!

I know what you mean. A couple of years ago I took a very old, like about 100 year old, print to dupe on the Walmart Kodak machine. The kid looked at it and declare it a "professional portrait" and demanded an approval. He gave me a brochure that reviewed the copyright law, etc. I told him that the picture was 100 years old... taken about 1900 or so. He said, "no photographers signature, no copy". So then I told him that I was the photographer and would be happy to sign his form. He was very appreciative and made copies with no questions asked.
Go figure!

$10 is cheap. I sent my 120 to WalMart for scanning & came back with a note from Fuji stating they can't do the service. I stopped at a pro lab in Charlotte & they wanted over $3.00 a frame to scan. Now I found this place and until I can get a scanner to do my own I am sending it here.

yeah, it was the sub-$5 price (that I keep hearing about) that got me in there... but for the $0.75 savings over the prolab I won't be going back. For C41 b&w I figured that DigitalICE would fix any problems, so I wasn't too worried. The biggest reason I don't like going to the prolab is because it is almost a 1/2 drive each way and Walmart is on the way to work... so I guess it is back to balancing the driving inconvenience against the home developing and dust spotting inconvenience...
FWIW, Walmart gave 3.5x3.5 proofs, my prolab gives 5x5's. Proof sheets cost more than proof prints... but if I shoot 6x9, that's all they can do unless I go to expensive scan to prints.
