Wanted RFF Member To Fix Two Selenium Meters

Hi folks,

I do have 2 similar light meters, Gossen Pilot and Pilot 2, which respond to light, but of course are totally off.

There is a company in the Uk called Megatron which provides selenium cells for cameras and there is a new talk about sillicon cells that can replace selenium cells.

Whatever anyone of you choose, I forward this request on a commercial basis, meaning I am ready to pay for the job besides materials as if I was dealing with a shop.

The job is not urgent, and can be accomodated to the fixer free time by far and large.

The fixer shouldn't have credentials but good will.

Whoever feels confident, wants to help me and earn some bucks, kindly contact me. In case you contact me by email your email will be bounced back as if I had not get it, but I am actualling getting them all.

I have several Selenium meters that are dead. I would join youin paying someone to get some of those fixed for a fee. Now if someone nows what to do, and that someone wants to make some money whilemaking some RFF members happier, here is the chance.
 
This thread is going to end in disaster. Several thousand meters may join.
 
Now, just in order to save time and words, fixing these meters includes at least two tasks I don't feel myself able to do.

a) Ordering either from Megatron or from a sillicon cells provider, the exact needed cell

b) Accessing the meters which are quite compact and have very delicate parts not to ruin, like the spring controlling the movement of the arrow and other parts that may need to be cleaned as well.

Sorry Highway you posted your post before mine. You was the guy I wanted to avoid in the DIY. But in case you want to perform the job for me, on a fee basis, I more than trust your skills.

On the contrary, they are very fixable, but once I open the Megatron web page my head begins to roll. In the past I tryied my best to get an understanding with them but they refuse to talk in any language other than their own high tech one.

Besides, in the past I did open one of the meters and I remind telling myself "close this quickly". You don't see there a complex laberinth, but rather things you should know before you touch.

Quality Light Metric, though not a forum member, will replace your selenium cells and calibrate your hand held meters.

i'd second jmcd's recommendation of Quality Light Metric in hollywood. they quickly and competently rebuilt my leica meter (not selenium) for me, and were easy to deal with even internationally. i noted "for repair and return" on the postal receipt so that i could demonstrate to customs that the meter originated in germany.

Hi Gumby,

It is yes and not. Take for example my case, in which I am talking about two ultracompact shoe mount Gossen Pilot meters. If their full fix will result in high price, still they have, IN MY VIEW, no competence or substitute.

Other folks may feel the same about their own unworking light meters, from a different make.

rickp: Quality Light Metric do no show any email address anywhere, only phone call - this may match very well selenium meters age, and by implication- knowledge too, but it is unpossible for global bussiness.

Another vote for Quality Light Metric. I've dealt with them for over 20 years. They will do a quick and professional repair at a very reasonable price.
 
Let me understand you folks. Suppose any of you lives in NY - is the phone call to QLM Hollywood that cheap to fix all details ?

Uhm...shouldn't cost anymore than a phone call from Texas did to fix all details of two meters...unless perhaps you are more loquacious. ;)

They are light meters...George pretty much knows what to do.

I had QLM fix two meters (one was a Gossen Pilot) I don't even think I left a note with them other than a contact name and number...George got back to me in a few days letting me know they were done...very easy to work with, fast turn-around and very happy customer in the end...
On the Plus-Side he can do any calibrating needed to ensure a trustworthy piece of gear...
