Kodak Gold not 400 but 200 expired
Fuji Superia 400
Both great cheap films, but I switched from Portra 400 to Superia 400. I love it!

I haven't seen any Kodak 200 lately, but Superia 400 is nice, too:

Beautiful!I wouldn't go quite that far, BUT Kodak Ultramax 400 is a very fine color film. I'm using it exclusively for my Foglandia project in the outer Sunset and Richmond districts of San Francisco, and I've been very pleasantly surprised with the subtle colors, particularly the blues and greens. I'm using an uncoated Summitar for this project. Here's a sample:

There are three rules for film based photography -
1: Fuji for color.
2: Kodak for black and white (sometimes Ilford).
3: When in doubt, refer to rules #1 and #2.

Portra 400 would beg to differ.
My rules for film based photography:
1/ Shoot what you got.
2/ See #1.

I always liked Superia, but haven't really played with Gold...

Kodak Gold 200, expired 2012. Home-developed with Tetenal C-41.
Not a huge fan of Kodak Gold 200, but the new Kodak Ultramax 400 is pretty nice.

Nice classic kodak look. Btw. Was it Rega or Project turntable?

I shot Superia 800 through one of those quicksnap underwater cameras. Good colour and contrast, however grainy and not "cheapie".
I've upgraded the single use to a Canon AS1 underwater, and that one I want to run some Slide, Ektar or even Superia. I think these have a nice snap to them, compared to the tameness of portra, that gets along well with Marine and Beach scenery.
I'll have to wait for 10 months until summer comes back though...

Expired Fuji C200, which supposedly may or may not be Superia 200.

Hi,
Re: Expired Fuji C200, which supposedly may or may not be Superia 200.
Where did this rumour come from? I ask as I've seen both and can't think why one film would have two different boxes; ignoring the Agfa stuff, of course.Regards, David

Marketing. Have C200 as the low end product for budget concious buyers, Superia for mid range consumers..
A rumour, but seeing my results are identical w/ both (and the portrait above was shot on C200 I don't see any 'budget' version in it)
Bottom line, if you're unhappy with C200, but happy with Superia 200, then great. If you don't notice any difference between the two, then save your money. I think this is a moot point now as Superia 200 is no longer available but Agfa 200 is. Made by Fuji.

Hi,
Did you know about this site:-
http://dexter.pcode.nl/?dx=806253
That's the page where I put in 806253 from a cassette of Agfa Vista. The 6 digit number's under the bar code on the metal tub.
And 806253 is a very popular one, you'll find it everywhere.
Regards, David

since the question is what film for more or less general purpose use, than my vote goes to superia any day.

Okay, this is over a year late yet a correction is needed: "...Really jealous of how everyones scans come out...", the correct word is envious, not jealous. The definition of jealous is: feeling or showing suspicion of someone's unfaithfulness in a relationship, and the like.

I have quite a bit of Kodak Gold in the freezer and I do use it quite a bit. But lately the sales of Fuji Superia have been far too good to ignore.
They are both good films but if I have an option I use Ektar and Portra. But quite obviously those do not fit the "cheapie" designation.
