Watch, out, Barcelona, here we come...

Just wanted to give the Barcelonians (how do you say that en espanol?) an advance warning - I'll be there in mid-May!

Just read an ad in today's newspaper that SkyEurope (one of those cheapo carriers that operate from low-fee airports) celebrate their 1 000 000th sold ticket, and are giving away 1 000 000 tickets for 0.01 Euros, so off to the computer I went (www.skyeurope.com), and from all the destinations available, Barcelona sounded most interesting; since my girlfriend & me both have 2 weeks of vacation then, we booked flights for 10 days in mid-May (we only got the 0.01 Euros deal in one direction, but the reverse was only 25 Euros, either, and all-in-all, with airport fees and bus-transfer to Bratislava, the tickets were like 80 Euros per person, still rather inexpensive).

So, I feel a meeting in order, and will put a reminder here again a little closer to that date...

In the meantime, we are doing research for inexpensive places to stay (is there a 'Let's go Spain' website somewhere? ;) ) - and of course, we would appreciate any tips from the locals for cheap hostels, boarding houses, etc.

Roman (who will have to brush up his marginal, rusty Spanish a bit...):D :D

Same here. I just bought three (3!) lenses on eBay. Besides, I'm already off the Mongolia for two weeks in Februari and off to Belgium for a weekend in May. Now, if people would come to Amsterdam.... :)

Congratulations, Roman!
Sure you don't want to visit Croatia before that? ;)

western canada is also lovely at times, depending on what you like--skiing, skating, mountain biking, hiking etc.

me, i like coffee shops and live music.
feel free to join me...

Wow, that's great Roman ! and that will be the third Barcelona RFF meeting !!! :D

Sure the city and its Barceloneses / Barcelonins will be happy to have it ! Does the city major know how important this city is becoming regarding rangefinder photography ? :D ;)

Imagine the signs, 'Welcome, you're entering Barcelona, rangefinder-friendly city'

I'll get back to you with more info later but to start, you can try here:

I definitely need to travel more as well :D

Denis,
we'll probably go to Lake Balaton again in summer - and Varazdin is just around the corner from there...

Joe,
OK, with the next 0,01 Euro ticket we will come to camera - uhoh, SkyEurope does not go there... :(

Oscar,
thanks for the info!

Roman the new 2005 Let's Go books were published a month ago (one of my kids wrote the 2005 Let's Go Costa Rica - that's how I know) so you should be able to get the Spain one in your local bookstore now.

They do not put the content on the web site (for obvious reasons) but here's the link to the Spanish book which has a hostel booking link and related links for Spain, including Barcelona.

Roman - You are a very lucky guy! Barcelona is a beaufitul, exciting place, and of course Oscar knows the backroads and byways... Above are the links you need to start planning your trip - you'll have a great time.

I'm envious. I used to be an Architecture student (many years ago!) That's when I discovered the amazing buildings of Antonio Gaudi in Barcelona. Ever since then I've wanted to go to Barcelona to see them. It seems Barcelona has many other good points. Some day.

I agree Gordon about the architecture in Barcelona. I too would love to see the Gaudi buildings. Don't think I wll get there this next year though. I am off to the island of Lanzarote in February. Then in Nov/Dec to Vegas and New York for our 25th wedding anniversary. Wish I'd got married in the Summer months as I expect NY is gonna be just a little cold! Don't know about Vegas weather.
Should be lots to shoot anyway.
