Hello Everyone. Longtime reader, first time poster.
I just purchased a WATE. Beautiful lens, but the camera is not recognizing it - not giving me a choice on focal lengths.
I have:
turned off lens detection and then turned it on again
removed battery and replaced
checked to make sure that other lenses are being read (they are)
Has anyone else had this issue? I tried searching previous posts but have not found a similar situation.
Thanks in advance,
ZenLeica

Lens detection is for 6-bit coded lenses. Is your WATE 6-bit coded?

Are there any non-6-bit-coded WATEs?

WATE not registering
Yes it is coded.
Yes it is coded.

Yes it is coded.
What's the code? Is it milled, or simply painted?
Wate lenses don't have a 6-bit code assigned, so if there is one, as you say, it's been "borrowed" to mimic another lens (I did this for my 35mm f/2 Biogon and 40mm f/2 M-Rokkor). If it's been "painted", then it wasn't done properly; it can be tricky.

You never know what some previous owners will do to their gear. I'm working on the assumption that he's done what he's said correctly. If that didn't work, there's something wrong with the 6-bit coding.

figured it out!
figured it out!
I set it to lens detection ON and I did not get a request for a focal length. Since I do not yet have the filter, I ignored LENS DETECTION ON + UV/IR.
I just tried it on a whim and was asked about the focal length.
So my next question is...
Can you select the focal length if you choose LENS DETECTION ON without the UV/IR option? Apparently, in my camera, I cannot.
Anyone else?
I was under the impression that all WATE lenses were coded, since they came out along with the M8. I'm talking about the 16-18-21.

That's interesting. Maybe only the cyan-vignetting correction (with IR filter) needs the specific focal length selected? With it set just on "LENS DETECTION", if you take a shot and hit 'INFO' does it indicate any focal length, or not?

no indication of the lens type. Is this the case for anyone else?

Do this:
1)
Turn the camera on.
2)
Push 'menu'
3)
Push 'set', (with the marker on 'lense detection'). - Then you get the choices between 'on' 'on + UV/IR' or 'off '.
It is under 'on + UV/IR' that you can chose focal length.

Olsen,
I did exactly that, initially selecting "ON" because I did not have an IR filter.
The camera did not ask about the focal length nor did it register the lens in the INFO page.
I then selected "ON + UV/IR" and the camera did recognize the lens.
Just wondering if this is the case for anyone else.
