Water Hole #2 is an abandoned bar on old Route 66 in Texola, Oklahoma. This tiny town, right on the border with Texas, has a lot of old Route 66 era buildings, and a population of fewer than 50 people. This is right next to the bar with the "This must be the place" poem painted on the building.

Good grief! Just woke up after a day on antihistamines...This post whould have said another good reason why documentary photography CAN be in color! I like this photo even when I am half asleep! Sorry...

A good picture, but I prefer the "happy chair" ! It seems you made an interesting journey with your son. How did he feel about this experience ?

I'm not sure (unless you are joking), always break the rules if you can. Besides we live in a digital world and they are all color. Of course, you can convert, but....................................?

He got bored with me stopping every 10 minutes to pull off and shoot something, but once we got to New Mexico he had fun. We went to Carlsbad Caverns and went hiking on top of the Sandia Mountains overlooking Albuquerque and went to the UFO museum in Roswell. That's stuff he wanted to do, and he actually took some great pictures himself. Here's a couple of his:

Mr. Crawford, you are the real deal dude. Love your various picture postings - really gives a consistent flavor in terms of how you see the world. Hat's off.

I Cannot understand why you have such great roads and a 55mph speed limit!!!!!:bang:

The Interstate highways have 75mph speed limit in New Mexico, but this road isn't a freeway. It has a lot of side roads branching off it and even houses along parts of it whose driveways go directly to the highway. The terrain is very steep in places as it crosses hills and ascends the escarpment south of Santa Fe. I've driven this road MANY times, and you really don't want to go much faster than 55. On the other hand, Interstate 25 has a 75mph limit and you can drive it that speed safely because its straighter, less steep, and has no roads or driveways branching off it.
 
Chris, looking at your work, I'm almost tempted to upload some of the trip I did from Toronto to Calgary. Maybe when the fall comes and there's less daylight for outdoor photography. Road trips are great. I have experience traveling with family when I have a camera on me.. it doesn't mix well does it ;D

You should upload some! For me, fall and winter are busy shooting times too. I used to mainly shoot in winter and fall because I like overcast light, but this summer has been big for me. I have shot probably 100 rolls of film this summer.

Thanks! The ones right above your post were actually done by my 14 yr old son, not me. I think his photos from the top of the Sandia Mountains were actually better than mine (which I haven't scanned yet, but I have the transparencies here and my son's shots were better!)

My apologies. See the edited post above. Slept half the day on antihistamines and meant to say how much I loved the color image. Just typed it in a fog and left out the word NOT. Sorry.:eek:

Headed back to get more coffee and will try to pay attention more today...
 
Chris, you are fortunate in that your son enjoys photography and appears to have a good eye as well. Neither of my kids care a hoot about photography.:(

Maybe as they get older they will look at some of the images I leave behind and change their minds, who knows....:rolleyes:
