I have used an R2A and an R4A in the rain - kept under my jacket and then brought out briefly to take a shot and then put back under my jacket. I then wipe them down when I get back to my car or inside. No problems at all with the cameras.
On the other hand, I've carried an old waterproof Canon Sureshot A-1 with me when I was hiking for those really rainy days, where drying the camera every so often was not possible, as I didn't want to take a chance on ruining the bodies (and lenses).
