Hey Everyone,
I just loaded some shots on my site and am getting some confusing feedback. Alot of people can get everything, but some people cannot get one section of the site, the same section, if anyone doesnt mind checking it out, Id like some feedback from people that might know what up? Ive never had this problem before.

www.bryanbowie.com

the sections that some are having problems with are "Race Set 1" and "Race Set 2"

Thanks so much!

Slow is an understatement on the loading part, and I am on a T-1 line.

I was unable to see those two sections as well, all I got was "Back" and a thin line starting from the left top slowly inching itself down towards "Back".
Are your pic files one big one or are the all that big? 13112x612.

Maybe you could delete the two pages you hare having trouble with from the server and then upload them again. That usually works for me.
I would have loved to have seen some Holga stuff.

Good Luck!

Brian

I was able to see all of them, but I can imagine why people might have trouble with the two areas you mentioned.

You're showing all your galleries as single, very wide JPEG files that the viewer has to scroll horizontally to see.

All of your other galleries (the ones with no reported problems) are in the neighborhood of 10,000-13,000 pixels wide; the two on which people are reporting problems are more than 17,000 pixels wide.

I've read that at least one older version of Internet Explorer had an internal limit of 4,000 pixels of width; maybe later versions have higher limits. I can't find any references that show a specific limit for any current browser, though.

Still, such large images might be causing problems by:

-- Taking so long to download that the user gives up and cancels.
-- Occupying enough space to invoke a memory leak in the browser.

Here's an old trick that might help: how about slicing your images and presenting them in a table, rather than as one incredibly wide JPEG file? Slicing the image lets it open faster because the browser can download multiple slices simultaneously. And even if the download times out or if the browser runs out of memory, at least this gives viewers a chance to see SOME of the image, which might help you with troubleshooting -- knowing what's the last slice they can see will give you an idea of how much width/data their browsers can handle.

Hi,
It looks like you have specified an incorrect width which is causing the picture to compress.

Go to an HTML editmode which should look something like this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<!-- saved from url=(0036)http://www.bryanbowie.com/race1.html -->
<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>/////// ROLEX 24 RACE - SET 1 \\\\\\\</TITLE>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
<META content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0" name=GENERATOR></HEAD>
<BODY bgColor=#ffffff><BR><BR>
<IMG height=612
src="race set 1.jpg" 😀
border=0> <A style="TEXT-DECORATION: none"
href="http://www.bryanbowie.com/rolex.html"><FONT face="arial black" color=black
size=4>BACK </FONT></A></BODY></HTML>

On the src line, remove the width=xxxx where I have put the smiley.

IMHO, I would use small thumbnails with links to larger pics. Most people won't hang around long enough for a 6Mb plus picture to download.

it loaded for me but it was slow...
that whole thing of pictures is almost 8mb...
thats kinda huge for internet files...

here is a site that uses the same kind of scrolling pictures you want
maybe you could look at the code there to see how it is layed out...

I'm on a T3 and it was slow.

You can always integrate something like simpleviewer if you want a relatively automated method. Just another idea.

Thanks so much! I removed the width tags from those pages, see if that works. I did want to say something I shouldve before, this was a very FAST way to get these images up, I was with one of the drivers at this race and they needed these up asap, so this is a very quick way of throwing them up, it was basically so friends/family could see then order prints.
I am currently revamping my entire site, so this was out of the norm for me. I usually have a "thimb" gallery in a left frame and load those into a "content" frame when clicked. So the problems should go away once Im done coding the new site!

I really appreciate the help though! When youre trying to get shots up wuick, after editing through 400+ RAW files and picking the good ones out, your brain gets REAL foggy!
