I'm not really sure where to post this, but this is the only thread linking the financial aspects of photography with the art.

I'm getting engaged 😛

How much should good wedding photographers charge / how much should I be paying - and for those of you in the field - how much did you pay?

Presumably for everyone on this forum - one of the big issues was someone who is capable of capturing the wedding. I've been to stunning weddings only to look with horror at the 'professional' photos distributed afterwards!

Also if anyone knows anyone great in Malaysia - I'd like to hear from them.[FONT=arial,sans-serif][/FONT]

This is really good advice. The other piece of advice is to find a photographer whose personality fits with yours. There's nothing worse than having a dead-pan photographer with no people skills throwing themselves into your wedding like a wet blanket, or if your wedding reception is a black-tie affair, having a class-clown photographer show up in jeans, tennis shoes and raggedy t-shirt. The photographer's portfolio and personality are important... but in a local market, references from people you know are the best advertising.

Prices will vary... a LOT and depend on many factors. Prices vary from market to market and vary dramatically.

In terms of what a photographer should cost -- that depends a lot on where you're located, if you're getting albums, length of coverage -- in my area 8-10 hours is kind of the norm. Some people want 12 and pay a bit extra. Some people want 2 photographers.
