WEIN zinc-air batt's

Just thought i'd pass this along;

Well, yes and no. I'm the co-inventor of the Weincell. While it is a
type of zinc-air cell, the electrolyte is proprietary and patented and
not the same as any other zinc-air cell. We also drill a much smaller
hole in the Weincells to make them last longer than hearing aid
batteries. The discharge curve of the Weincell matches mercury cells
exactly. No other zinc-air cell does.

Most battery compartments are not air tight, so you really don't need
to drill holes.

I heard of people buying the hearing aid air batteries and gluing all except one of the holes to match the Wein cells....hmmm.....

How well do you think they've worked for you, Gordon? I feel quite wary about the idea, having frustrating experiences with hearing aid batteries... in hearing aids I mean!

I also have a couple of cameras I've put Wein cells into. For the most part, they seem to work pretty well. I would imagine the battery life will be shorter than the original mercury cells, but I haven't used them long enough to comment further on that. I've checked the in-camera meters against my handheld and they seem to be accurate, where alkalines definitely caused a different reading tending towards a slight overexposure as compared to the handheld. How critical that difference would be with print film I can't say, but since I shoot mostly slide film I'd prefer the in-camera meter to be as accurate as possible.

They are working fine for me. My light meter is reading more accurately. I don't know how long they will last but that isn't as important as having the right voltage.
