Weird meter behavior

I recently bought a reportedly CLA'd GIII QL17. Cosmetically, it is indeed in good shape, with new light seals, clean glass, and a wonderfully bright viewfinder. However, the meter is acting strange, in my opinion. Basically, the meter changes drastically with the the focus. At infinity, I am always at f16, at close range, I am at f1.7, no matter what the lighting situation. Furthermore, changing the shutter speed doesn't seem to affect the meter at all! It is giving me readings of f8 at a shutter speed of 1/500 in dim indoor indirect light. Changing the ASA does seem to affect the aperture, though. I have tried cleaning the battery contacts and changing the battery, but this hasn't done much. I do not have a flash attached. I am wondering what the problem is, and if it is an easy fix, I can probably do it, but if it is more involved, I do have the option of sending it back to the seller. Thanks for any advice or help.

Find the box and pop it back in the mail. If he said it's been CLA'd (the A is for "adjust") and it's doing that, then somebody is lying to somebody.

(edit)- I meant to say that that is what I would do. Didn't mean to sound so authoritative.
