I got back a roll of film (fortunately tests) that seem to have plastic "liquid" on the base side - it's dry, but in scans, it looks like water.
It is not soluble in water or Ethol.
Is there something in C-41 processing that could have caused this - or is this bad film?
?

I use to have this sort of problem. Does it look like waves? Post a picture.
In my case it was the rubber rolers than marked the negative as it exited the machine. I would usually take them back, they would wash them with whatever and they would then be clean.
That was one of the reasons why I now process at home with Tetenal.

This does indeed sound like bad processing to me. Dante, I'm surprised you're not already souping C41 at home! It's quite liberating...

Right. I need to keep as many brain cells going as possible, and this somehow doesn't seem to be in the program!
