Hey guys
I've read about the latest firmware making the camera hang and not recock when running discrete mode with continuous drive.
But I wanted to ask if the following behavior in single drive is normal, in the sense that it's always been like that, or it started with a certain firmware (want to rule out hardware problem):
I set the camera to soft & discrete, shoot in single drive (S). When I let go of the shutter, sometimes it recocks, sometimes it doesn't. It will however do it eventually, but the delay between me releasing the shutter button and the recocking seems fairly random.
At first I thought that if I released it really quick after pressing, it would recock because it hadn't started writing to the card. Otherwise it wouldn't recock until the write was finished (if I let go after the write had started).
So anyway, it's not a problem for me in practice. I just wanted to ask if this is "expected" with this combination of advance and drive mode.
Like I said, it seems semi-random with the recock.

I don't use discrete mode and usually only single, so I can't relate to own experience on the issue but discrete and continuous doesn't seem to make any sense.
The point for the discrete mode is to cock the shutter only once you release it again after a shot. Once you press down and hold - what you would do for continuous shooting, you block the re cock step.
Maybe they should make "discreet" unavailable (grey) in C mode in the menu and automatically make the camera switch to standard if discreet was selected before and then switched from S to C mode.

I agree that discete and continous makes absolutely no sense, which is why I pointed out that specifically this is not that issue (that I've seen mentioned before).
However, I still find the behavior strange, I didn't notice it until yesterday when I set it to discrete & soft because I was shooting at a small concert in a café. Normally I shoot soft only.
Still, it could be totally normal, the camera behaves just as if the system is completely blocked at some stages of writing to the card. The main thread seems to be blocked, as we software developers say.

it should work fine on the M8.
it will not work with the newest firmware. you need to be using version 1.176 or earlier for it to work pretty consistently on the M9. (it can still hang up now and again, but rarely.)
does not really work yet on the Monochrom.
in all cases i am talking about shooting Discreet and Soft in S Mode.

Discreet and continous makes sense in that photogs using discreet mode don't have to disable it when they switch from single to continuous. Works normally on my M8.2.

Yeah mine (M9) does that since I updated to the latest firmare, I'm sure Leica will sort it with the next firmware update. I also think the write speed of the card changes the time it takes to re-cock and also how much space there is in the buffer.

Could we get the mods to correct mis-spellings in thread titles?
it would be a shame if non-English speakers were denied the chance to know the correct word...

Ah yes, it should say "discreet" shouldn't it? I did think it looked funny at first, but my Mac wanted to spell it like that and I never thought twice about it.
