After almost 45 years of photography & a studious avoidance of rangefinders, I went & did it! On a whim, I bought a CLA'd M4-P w/28mm Color Skopar lens & a Leica MR meter on top. Now, I'll see if I can fall in love with it. I'm not too sure about the 28mm as I've never used one, but I imagine I can trade it off for a 35mm if I need to. Wish me luck!

Was that the kit offered on Craigslist down there? It looked like a solid price. I was tempted to pick it up for the lens and sell the body. :)

Stellar deal. Congratulations!

I was tempted to try bargaining with him on it once I saw him listing it everywhere from here to Vancouver but didn't want to deal with the travel hassle from Seattle to Portland. Well, that am I'm very content with my M4 which doesn't have 28mm framelines.

CL'd M4ps go for about $650 from what I've seen. And that lens is hard to come by and has been going for ~$450 from what I've seen.

Congrats! The 28 Skopar is a superb lens. One of the best lenses Cosina has made, IMO. Looks like you got an excellent deal. The entire vf on an M4P is pretty close to 28 mm.

If you were going to add another lens, would you add a 50mm or a 75mm?

What do you want to photograph?

Personally, I'd add a fast lens - probably a 50 to avoid duplication with your 28mm (and because of the fast lenses out there, 50s are the most plentiful and inexpensive). Or at least thats what I'd pick up living here in Seattle where there is so little light much of the year. Hah - I didn't shoot yesterday but there wasn't much light at all. With 400 speed film I would have been under 1/60th at f2 yesterday at 2 pm.

Then again, there is the 70mm 1.8 from Voigtlander so I suppose there are moderately affordable long fast lens too.

If the Color-Skopar doesn't work out for you then I'd be willing to bet you'll have no trouble finding someone here to take it off your hands. :)

I've been watching that ad for a while and know the guy selling it (I sold him a Bessa R a year ago, he happened to be at Pro Photo when I bought my Hasselblad, and I've bumped into him here and there) and was surprised it took so long to sell! Nice to see it ended up with someone here on RFF!
