Well looks like everyone on YouTube got their New Toy!

I heard that Nikon's orders for the Z9 (I don't know where these get the ZED from) are double now than for Canon. I guess everyone has been waiting
for this camera, which is good for Nikon.

I know one surf/wildlife photographer ...he tried the Z7 and said it was fine for landscapes. I'm sure the Z9 is what he's been waiting for. He's a D5/D6 guy currently.

Hope the Z9 turns out to be a great success for Nikon. Nikon has been criticized for being too conservative, behind-the-curve, etc. In fact, they don't put out innovative cameras every week. Their approach seems more thoughtful. Personally, I like that.

We have several pre-orders for the Z9 at the little camera shop I currently work in. The nearest major city is 100km away. Make of that what you will. Consensus amongst my colleagues is that Nikon smashed this one out of the park.

Nikon already making 35,000 Z9 cameras per month, there are 400,000 preorders. 400,000 x $5,500 = $2,200,000,000. Some of those preorders are doubles, but this is after one week, those will be more than offset by others who decide to get one today or later. It’s okay not to need one, or want one, but it’s projecting to claim that other people we don’t even know don’t need one. Granted, nobody at all “needs” a camera of any kind, but this thing opens up a lot of creative possibilities for people, and a lot of people are starting to realize that, if not everyone.

Turns out the 35000 number was a bit off by a factor of ten. Whomever interpreted that report from the original Japanese added an extra zero, so it's only 3500 production per month. At that rate they'll be able to fill all the pre-orders in eleven years.:bang:

Haha, that would be Nikon's luck!

True, maybe 14 pros need it. But the majority of pro cameras are sold to amateurs who want them. The pro models wouldn't be economically viable without the large volume of amateur purchasers.

Yeah, just 14, that makes sense, LOL!
And us pros have to practically wear knee pads to bow down to amateurs and thank them profusely for their amazing financial generosity.

Us pros are nothing without you amateurs…;-)

I know the knee pad comment is in jest, but there's a unit stills photographer who shoots with two Sony A9s and wears workpants with knee pad inserts because he is constantly kneeling down to get the right angle for movie set images. I'm considering similar pants as I wear out jeans faster than I should, for the similar reasons.
