and bought 3 lenses over the past 2 days.
ever since i got the 50 elmar m i have been thinking about getting some vintage lenses. i love that elmar...

i was offered a mint copy of the ltm canon 35.2.8 lens. it's been a favourite and a regret since i sold mine way back. a decent price and recently had a cla and it looks great too.

i was also offered another canon, the 28/2.8 - equally gorgeous cosmetics but flawed glass. the price was too good to pass it up. i may have to watch out for very sunny days and some flare. it too has had a day at the spa recently.

and i found a mint copy of a cv 28/3.5 black for a pretty good price. (this was just before the canon 28 popped up)

i am looking forward to mounting them all on the rd1s and going for long summer walks.

Very cool. I bought an M6 recently that looked like new, and it was in the box with the strap and everything. A camera store in the small town of Muncie, Indiana sold it to me for $1100. I'm having a lot of fun with it, as you must be with your new lenses and the RD-1s.

Nice, enjoy!
I think Garry Winogrand was shooting a Canon 28/2.8 almost exclusively?
That alone makes it legendary :)

Geez, joe, your collection is starting to look like mine! :) Although I don't have the Canon 28... :( So when are you going to buy another Rokkor M 40? ;)

Joe,

Those 2 Canon lenses are really nice. I have the same 28 on my RD1 and the 35 I bought as a temporary replacement on my M2 while my regular lens was being repaired.

I tried to sell the 35 here, but no interest. Maybe priced it too high.

Oh, I tried that CV 28 on my RD1 at first but found it pretty contrasty. Happier now with the old Canon.

What is wrong with the glass on your 28? Hard to imagine it could be scratched with the front element being so small and recessed.

Enjoy,
Gary

chris, mine are in the mail so no playing just yet.
yes, the winogrand lens...i'd have to become much more prolific...
steve, not the rokkor, i'm holding out for the 40 rollei sonnar.
i have not seen the lens yet, just a pic that makes it look great, barrel wise. the seller says it's cleaning marks, front and rear, and the coating looks a bit strange...and that it flares on occasion. but for the price of, it was worth the chance to experiment with it.

The Canon 35's are perfect with the RD1. So compact. And they look right at home on the Epson body. Have to assume the Canon 28 would be just as fun...

I have all 3 of those lenses too (though my CV 28/3.5 is in chrome). All great fun to shoot. The Canon 28/3.5 is great as well, and somewhat sharper, I think than the f/2.8 version.

Now you're going to want the Canon 25/3.5..... ;)

You'll be amazed at the size of the 28/2.8, Joe. They do have quite a bit of performance variation. If sharp, a keeper :)

And then, if there is a perfect companion to the Elmar-M, it is the 28/3.5 color skopar.

Roland.

yes, the one from dpi, good price and very nice shape. i wasn't planning on getting a 28 as i have cv 25 and use it on the rd1, but then i decided to put together a small kit of lenses that fit the rd1's framelines...28/35/50.
the 50 will be the elmar, the 35, the canon, a long time favourite of mine and the 28 is now up for competition between the canon and the cv. my $$ is on the cv at this point unless the canon is better than decribed by the owner.

yes ari, it is a great looking copy. i am anxious to use it.

you could be right.
and i blame it all on the elmar. it really opened my eyes to having more and diverse collection of lenses. i have resisted re-buying the canon 35 for too long, based on some neurotic formula in my head about keeping things simple instead of using each lens as it's own unique tool.

You know what would look really good sitting behind those Canon Lenses...

The 35/2.8 Canon is one of my favorites. Sharp enough, and lower-contrast which is especially nice for Digital.

I love my canon glass (35/2 and 50/1.4). Joe enjoy yours and the new Elmar, too. Post some shots from these new toys/tools.
