Went to the studio, more nudes ...

I kind of didn't like the pictures. IMO nude photos are supposed to show the beauty of woman's body, but these pictures lack something. Can't really explain it with my poor english... Just my very personal opinion.

The lighting / location reminds me of the work of photographer Joyce Boronio (spel?) from her book on exotic performers.

Dear all;

I did not go into the shoot with this type of photo in mind. As I shot the first few scenes, I was starting to get some ideas of how unusual a photos that I might get out of the film.

When we moved into the natural light room, I was even more sure that the film would produce some unusual images. A comment that was made in my last set about my PP giving sinister photos, and I often do things with an eye to harsh.

It was clear that this model what not really happy doing this type of modeling, and much of what she was doing was not at all pretty (to my eye), and I clearly saw that. As a personal preference, I did not find her that attractive, and that may have colored my work.

On the other hand, I never set out to make a social comment or a "ugly glamor" set from this shoot. It's safe to say it turned out that way.

thanks to all who have shared.

Dave

Dave i liked seeing the photos, i think i saw some others you posted not so long ago as well--i find them at least interesting and every now and again a very good one (i am a harsh critic so i try not to comment eh--you need to make a mona lisa before i say great! be assured i am more criticle of myself).

i liked many of the comments made as well--both critical and positive, Fallis in an earlier post mentioned a point of view i thought was insightful as well. i wont comment on every comment but instead just shoot from the hip...

it appears to me it was learning experiance, and none of that is wasted, some shots turned out well (not great-remember mona lisa) and some others are washed out, or conversely the last siloette doesnt work at all
imo. I would suggest that to these kind of shoots with a few other people you can still employ a level of individualism.

although i like to shoot harsh lighting as well i think some of these shots could have done with supplmental lighting, sure flash if you have but that would have went against the workflow of the workshop, however in instances like this, a reflective pop out disk works well, if you have a little stand to hold it on so much the better (considering the investment in the workshop and that you spent on developing negs etc, this is well within reach), the other photogs would only appreciate someone well organised and shoot happily with a quick set up, at least some of the workshops like this i have attended or even hosted! the trick is not to take over or hog the session. i am quite amazed at the prices mentioned for models you guys spend though...you can get girls , ummm models to take their clothes off for a lot less here.

film is a lot more demanding than digital from a certain aspect imo (no chimping to begin with) so the results display a true learning curve or 'success failure rate' it leaves you more vulnerable to criticisum. these pictures imo are far better in film, so i would encourage you to continue with this..digital would not of worked quite so well

the way i see it is photography of this nature invovles first learning exposures of film in relation to everthing else, although cameras with auto this or that tend to help (or harm?) in some respect, but the creativity starts with shaping or taking advantage of the light....these people providing you with a single light source that is limiting (not that you cant make use of it) and if you are to be truly creative then at least take a few tools to shape the light in a way that works for you, it may mean that you get to snap off less pictures but the results improve.

comments about the model are not particularly revelent, its not like you had a choice of the model, so you work with what you got, whether you chose to to exagerate the the scars or not is open to critisisum.

also i am not sure i agree this is glamour photography, as has been mentioned here over and over again! perhaps its just a different perspective or a view from different people in different countries (same thing) but this looks like figure study to me, in most cases, a couple border on erotic/glamour but pretty tame, not worth worrying about

This forum would be way more interesting if it wasn't 99% men.

Yeah. A lot of the interesting characters who have passed through here in the last few years have found themselves unwelcome at one time or another for straying too far from middle-aged gear-fondling talk, and for whatever reason that seems to have included most of the women. Unfortunate.

Yeah, I guess if you're a nude model having random old dudes on the Internet complain about your breasts is par for the course. Keep it classy, guys.

Well, regardless of whether it was intentional or not, I think you are onto something. An expanded series like this, with better lighting and a little more attention to the poses, has serious potential.

I'm not complaining. I think it would make a good subject for a more serious series, unless someone else has already gone there. He'd need to use the lighting better and he'd need to give more attention to the poses though. Of course he'd also need to find more models.
