Weston Meter Problem

I have a Wston V and Weston IV that worked perfectly until a adjusted the zero (turned out it didn't really need it but I tweaked it anyhow); now they both are seriously under-reacting to light. I tried turning the zero screw until I got close to a proper reading but the zero was way off. Have I damaged anything by working the zero adjustment screw? I should add that I put both meters down on a metal table and they were drawn to it by the internal magnet - could that affect anything?

Looks like deja view all over again - I'm left with the Weston II that I used over 50 years ago.

the weston adj screw does not need to be turned 360 it only needs to be inched a degree or so...

Weston II are ok meters.

I agree but my eyesight isn't what it was when I was a kid and the dial is now difficult to read. In any event I did more than inch the adj screw a degree or so - can that cause harm? Can it be undone?

I have forgotten the mechanism it is so long ago that I stripped a Weston but yes I think you could have damaged.

If they both just read low especially at high meter deflections then you have the failing cell syndrome, my II is ok the later ones V's have cell failure.

Some one has posted how to take apart instructions I'll try and find.

The thing is that they were both fine until I twiddled the zero adjustment and now they both aren't fine - I'm not a big believer in coincidence.
