Having attended various auctions for various types of things in the past, where, even with the buyer’s premium it is occasionally possible to walk away with huge bargains on rare items, I am wondering if that happens with these Wetzlar auctions. It doesn’t appear so to me, in the past, but I don’t know. Especially with the 26% buyer’s premium (pretty high for auctions), ladled on top of final hammer prices which themselves usually seem to be more than some of these things, no matter how rare or nice, might have changed hands for on the private market. (For example, I have seen a Summaron 35/2.8 ltm go for 80% more than I paid for one in identical condition from Fotopia, and Fotopia is hardly a source of “deals”, and that was before the buyer’s premium.)
I’m not making a statement, I’m asking. The catalog is interesting at any rate.
