Having attended various auctions for various types of things in the past, where, even with the buyer’s premium it is occasionally possible to walk away with huge bargains on rare items, I am wondering if that happens with these Wetzlar auctions. It doesn’t appear so to me, in the past, but I don’t know. Especially with the 26% buyer’s premium (pretty high for auctions), ladled on top of final hammer prices which themselves usually seem to be more than some of these things, no matter how rare or nice, might have changed hands for on the private market. (For example, I have seen a Summaron 35/2.8 ltm go for 80% more than I paid for one in identical condition from Fotopia, and Fotopia is hardly a source of “deals”, and that was before the buyer’s premium.)
I’m not making a statement, I’m asking. The catalog is interesting at any rate.

I'm getting confused now...apart from this has Westlicht become Leitz Auction?
Have Leitz bought the dealership, auction house etc etc?
https://www.leitz-auction.com/
And I wonder, is it Leitz or Leica who have done this? I understood the two to be separate.

As far as I know Leitz does not exist. It is Leica Camera AG.

I fully agree with your comments. Here in the UK I attend many auctions, and the buyers premium plus vat at 20% is often north of 30% of the hammer price.
A lot of buyers who attend are surprised when they are asked for the auction costs.

Weitzlar Auctions is a relatively new Leitz-Auction competitor located in Wetzlar.
Leitz-Auction (was Westlicht until bought by Leica) is located in Vienna.

Thanks,
I have bought and sold via Westlicht. Both experiences positive indeed sale prices can be a very pleasant surprise, but then I guess they have a global market.
Off topic, anyone else had a negative experience with Catawiki?

Yes, it is. Please start a new thread if you want to discuss Catawiki.
