It’s interesting how many people just love the CCD sensors. Makes me wonder why a company doesn’t make them as an option even if it means lower MP and lower ISO. Seems there would be a niche market for it.

My favorite DSLR camera is an Olympus E-1. I've had quite a few others (Pentax *ist DS, Pentax K10D, Canon 10D, Panasonic L1, Nikon D750, Olympus E-5, and a couple others I can't quite remember), but the E-1 and a few Olympus Zuiko Digital lenses remain the best performing and nicest to use gear of them. That's why I still have it.
The body is fundamentally worth nothing any more ($2300 in October 2003, now I doubt I could get $100 for it). The ZD 11-22/2.8-3.5, 35/3.5 Macro, and 50-200/2.8-3.5 remain worth a small fraction of their initial purchase price, and are still delightful. Despite being more than sixteen years old, and used a lot, everything is still in perfect working order and even looks near new.
I was a Nikon user for many years in the film era (1969 to 2001) but never liked the AF generation cameras and lenses after the F3/FM2n generation all that much. The F6 I owned briefly was nice but too complicated. I still have my 1962ish Nikon F plain prism with 28/2 and 55 Micro/3.5 lenses, and it all works beautifully still.

Almost the same for me,
Canon EOS D30 (2002) - hate this camera.
Canon 1st gen Digital Rebel (2003)- loved this camera for the time period.
Kept it till 2008, then was a Canon 40d.
I recently had a friend pass onto me 2x Canon 1D mk II's (c.2003) - WOW, these were astounding DSRL's for this time period.
9 frame a second read/write is kind of mind blowing. They also sound like machineguns when you use them!

I donated my Pentax K100 (6Mp) to the local high school photo program. Hope it's getting good use there!

I still use an EOS 1DMK2 occasionally. I could part with it, but I like how it always seems to nail focus no matter what lens I hang on it. I just wish ISO 2500 was a little less noisy, because I don't have any long telephotos to hang on it that aren't on the slow side aperture wise. Even with OS/IS standing outside in dim 20 degree weather with the wind howling doesn't often produce many impressive wildlife and bird shots.
I also have 1DMK3, and a Nikon D300 and D700 as other 10-12 Mpeg DSLRS. I have a Panasonic FZ200 that's 12 Mpeg too. Those cameras are all I'll ever need for what I'll do. I just wish I could learn to pass up a deal on anything used anyone offers as a potential advancement? I'd be all set if I could stop buying stuff!

My only DSLR is a Nikon D700. I have a Nikkor 50/1.4 (AI'd) for it, plus several Tamron lenses with a Nikon adapter.

Raid--get a good AF lens for your D700--they are surprisingly cheap--and ---GOOD---e.g.--28-105--and start to really enjoy your D700--you'll be delighted!

Until recently, I never owned a serious digital camera, being a film guy (M3, F4) from way back.
Recently, my wife and I were purchasing some equipment from a pro who was phasing himself out of the business. As we were leaving his home, he said, “Why don’t you just take this with you? I bought it years ago as a backup and hardly ever used it. “
We said sure and took it with us. When we got home I looked at it and it was a Canon EOS-1D Mk ll N.
I haven't owned a Canon camera since my old A-1 which I traded in some 30 years ago. So now a Canon digital SLR has found a welcome home here. I am becoming acquainted with it and learning why one reviewer called it “quirky but lovable!”

D200 or D300. Amazingly cheap today. For a 16x20 wall hanger ~10 mp is enough. I used a D200 (still have) extensively and then bought a D300 which I had for a very short time before trading it in on a super deal D700. I can't really remember why but the D200 & 300 cameras worked really well with my older AI lenses unlike the cheaper Nikon bodies.
