I know these are autofocus? But, surely they are in the same league as the Konica fixed lens camera (Hexar?) and they sure look nice and well built, from the photos. I have never actually held one in my hands.

Wonder if anyone has any insight on these cameras? Is there no interest in them?

Picture quality of the 35Ti is as good as the Hexar. I guess that the main differentiator is the viewfinder. The Hexar's finder has moving parallax corrected projected framelines that float within a larger field. So like many rangefinders, you can see outside the periphery of the actual frame..

Top quality lenses, these are Nikon's entry into the "Luxury Compact" field.

I could never get past the "Chronometer" needles on the top plate for exposure information, etc. It seemed out of place on a camera.

I love my "chronometer" on the RD-1 hence the avitar... 😀
IMHO, once you get used to it it is a very effective method to display the information
one quick glance is all you need.

But "horses for courses" it may not be everybodys cup of tea.... 😕

In my group of photographers the display is generally referred to as the "gas meter" 🙄

I have both of these, and love them. I can't compare them with the Hexar, or any other compact in that bracket, as I haven't used them. I find the analogue displays on the cameras easy to use, and like them because it sets them apart from other cameras, but I am sometimes puzzled by the focus distance dial, as, when using autofocus, the needle often points at a distance which seems considerably at variance with the distance I would have estimated, which makes matters confusing when I want to manually focus. Having said that, I haven't had too many focus failures in my pictures.

Of the two, I prefer the 28Ti, although I have used it far less, as the flash control is much easier to use, with a sliding switch to select flash on or off, rather than a tiny button which has to be depressed at the same time as the shutter release.

I would be interested in seeing other opinions, particularly comparisons between the 35Ti and the Contax T3 or Leica CM, and the 28Ti versus the Ricoh GR1.

I have the 28Ti (bought it in 1995) and it is built like a tank. Image quality is excellent, and the thing I really like about it is the framelines light up red when it is too dark. I had the Minolta TC-1 also and always liked my 28Ti more.

I liked the analog dials a lot -- showed aperture, focus distance, and exposure compensation. How many frames left was a small LCD readout.

On the other hand, I have the Epson RD-1 also and haven't gotten used to the analog cluster on that yet. Guess I'm still stuck on the Leica M layout.

Regards, Charlie
